Happiness is a result of living within our purpose by seeing how our contribution impacts the world. Improvement, autonomy, the time for creativity–they’re part of the ownership over our lives that gives us a feeling of freedom. When we see how our actions create change that impacts others in a positive way, we are gifted with natures greatest motivator–dopamine.
What is Dopamine and how does it impact us?
Dopamine is the chemical in our brains that makes us feel happy and motivated. It helps us with creativity and increases confidence so we can live life on the offense and not the defense. It is a critical ingredient while we navigate toward our goals and is brought on mindfully in various ways.
So many go through life waiting for their chance. They listen and watch intently while waiting for a direction to become clear. But it rarely does by itself. They work a job for money, focus on not failing, and think a higher title or paycheck is the answer. That one day their chance will arise. Than use social media or T.V to try and fill a feeling of emptiness while still doing the very thing keeping them from fulfillment–they wait.
How can we instead create personal inflation and continually improve our trajectory as an individual?
Make Learning a Daily Habit
Learning is a path toward fulfillment and purpose
No matter what our role or position in life, learning something new will send us down a path toward our purpose. New knowledge is followed by a motivation to use it. This action opens opportunity for us that otherwise we would not see. By humbling ourselves to let others into our brain we begin to see different perspectives again strengthening our ability as a person. The lowering of these shields makes us feel more in control, unafraid to fail, and open to change which are all major hurdles for achievement.
The best defense is a good offense
Fear of change is one of the key contributors to growth stagnation. Many fight change defensively over pursing it, especially if they don’t clearly understand what it leads to. With a learning mind we begin to live life on the offense instead of the defense and get excited to try new things. As the fear of failure subsides, our ability to make decisions improves, creativity spikes, and we naturally begin to see the impact of our contributions. This give us a dopamine hit, which motivates us to do more and enjoy more challenges.
With learning as a habit, we continually gain importance. We close off the mindset to ask “why we can’t” and become solution oriented, instead focusing on “how we can.” Summed up in the most important value of Elliott homes;
The Day We Stop Learning We Cease To Exist
Choice VS Circumstance
The importance we have in life is a choice we make, not a circumstance we’re given. This choice leads to outcomes we didn’t know existed.
Choose to be a daily life learner as it is the root of fulfillment and the path toward opportunity.
