Make Winning a Habit Not A Goal

One common trait is shared by all winning teams. This trait results in consistent success.

Winning is not a goal but a daily habit.

A Thirst To Learn
Winning teams have a thirst for growth. The individuals have a deep passion to improve, learn and succeed. They measure results and function instead of their form. Winners disconnect with those who “work to just not fail,” while they relentlessly focus to improve. Often times they will drag others into the future in order to adopt new habits.

They Own It
These individuals own their mistakes even if the fault is not theirs. They let no one stand in the way of their goals. Often others don’t like them because they speak the hard truth. They do not tip toe around emotions, they say it like it is. They show respect by communicating observations and appreciate when others do the same for them. A winner relentlessly pursues the definition of success. They own understanding how they can maximize their value and what the goals are.

They are respected but maybe not liked
Winning teams are respected by their competitors because to them failure is not an option. To these teams winning is only a matter of time. Competitors know they will take advantage of every opportunity to gain an edge. Competitors also know they must always maintain their best to stay ahead. This sounds exhausting to those who “work to not fail.” But for a winner improving is a daily habit not a task. This growth is where winners get their energy.

Success is a habit not a goal
The excitement to a winner is not in winning itself, but instead in the journey. This is what makes them so different. It’s that success is a daily habit not a goal they target. Success is an expectation they have on themselves. These expectations lead to their goals, to success. They use their will power to consistently clear away road blocks. Overcoming obstacles is not a burden, it’s an opportunity for growth. Finding a problem to overcome is the journey.

Drive might be confused with Anger
Many confuse the relentless effort of a winner with anger as these rare individuals do not take “no” for an answer. Especially if “no” is in the way of their goals.

Good is the enemy of Great
Winners measure their performance by their full potential. They look at what can be achieved today instead of where they were yesterday. They know that a good performance is standing in the way of a great one. Their expectations are high and they don’t allow the environment to determine the outcome……. EVER!

Although winning itself is not everything, you will we never see a winning team smiling and laughing when they are losing? Their passion for execution is just too strong.

What does success look like to you?

Amateurs practice until they get it right.
Professionals practice until they can’t get it wrong.
