For those that attended the lunch last week, I hope you had a great time. For those that couldn’t make it, we missed you dearly and appreciated your decision to get your work done, but hope you can make it next time.
At the lunch, I was told by a member of this team when they stepped back for a second to see the impact we had on the lives of people and the results of the 2019 St. Jude Dream Home it made them feel pride and purpose. This person said when you are working daily in the grind you sometimes feel like you’re getting nowhere. Like you’re unappreciated or on your own, and we forget that everyone else is pulling the same weight. When people are constantly pushing you to reach beyond your horizon it makes you want to just shut down and feel sorry for yourself. Then just when you think you have had enough, you get a survey in from a buyer that singles you out, showing something that we failed at. But this person then watched the video that was created to thank everyone for their MASSIVE contribution to the most successful campaign in the history of the state.
They saw the impact it had on others, heard the meaning it gave those who contributed, saw the check that was handed to St. Jude in the amount of $766,910.00, then realized how much their abilities have improved over the course of the past year. This was a defining moment for this person to see where they had come as a person in such a short period of time. They stated, at that point, they realized what it was all for. They now understood what improvement meant and why it was such a high priority to the Elliott Homes culture. That embrace failure was a mindset toward achieving a higher meaning and not some gimmick to take on more work. This person felt the meaning behind their achievements and stood taller today than yesterday. It was a connecting point that started with the feeling of raising a net $766,910.00 to save the lives of children. WOW! Yes, that is what y’all accomplished. (a little southern slang for you)
Because our ambitions are to truly change the world and not just build homes, you do not have easy jobs. None of us can afford to work a single day and measure our success off not having failure. We can’t afford to accept the industry standard that certain defects are OK because a buyer didn’t see them, or a certain % of unhappy buyers is acceptable in the business. It doesn’t mean if we get them, we have failed, it just means we have opportunity to improve and the exciting part is this mentality is shared by only a small percentage of people in the world. However, it is shared by a large percentage of people on this team. Quality of life does not come in the form of not having to deal with problems or conflict, it comes from achievement and meaning after attaining something that is larger than us as an individual. Because of your drive toward significance, owning a home by Elliott Homes is an achievement in many lives. The dedication you all have toward experience and quality has built a brand that people see as a status symbol. One that they trust, respect and appreciate being associated with. One that changes their lives and doesn’t just put a roof over their head.
Today we are rolling out the single largest item this company has had next to the homeowner guide, the dashboard. This will create a lot of clarity for everyone on where things are and ensure that we are all rowing the same direction. A huge milestone for this team.
There is one thing for sure.
With the support of an entire team focused on solutions toward quality of life, you can achieve anything.
And it’s inspiring to watch you do it.
Great work team, your outstanding human beings and you deserve all the success that is and will come from your efforts.
